Craftsman Room Addition phase 1

Here is the house we will be adding on to.  The owner is an admirer of the Craftsman style, and made his architect visit Gamble House in Pasadena before drawing the plans.
First I built a temporary enclosure, since we would be removing the fence that closed off the backyard.
The wrought iron gates will be re-used, but I put them in my temporary wall for now.
Next we had to demo the block wall fence - it is right where our room addition is going!
Here the plumbing crew is working on tying in the underground plumbing before we pour the slab.
And we have forms in place, footings dug, rebar in the footings, and sand over visqueen - ready for mud!
There is no welded wire mesh, because the building department accepts fiberglass mixed in the concrete as a viable substitute, so that is what we will be pouring with.

Drew, a handsome young college student with a 4.0 grade point average, was involved in a tragic accident that changed his world drastically, and left him wheelchair-bound. His bedroom was expanded into a small bachelor pad in this Greene and Greene style home, and a handicap bathroom was added, to accomodate his new circumstances.

I was happy to receive the contract for this work, as I am an admirer of the work of architects Charles and Henry Greene, and I wanted to give young Drew a quality space to call home.

I will post progress photos of this job, breaking it into phases.  This is phase 1, which entails some demo, forming for the concrete foundation, and underground plumbing...ready to pour!

Please note: this is not my design, I am the General Contractor on this job.
