My wife and I bought the house as a fixer-upper.  The entire house was renovated - but most of the work went into the kitchen.  We replace the floor joists and installed a new subfloor, tore out the panneling and drop ceiling and ran all new electrical and plumbing.  All new studded walls and drywall made for a nice new clean kitchen.  The cabinents are from Ikea and finished with a home made granite tile countertop.  I did all the work myself over a period of 3 months all while working on my master's degree!
