Like Santo Inserra (see Electrician’s stick), I use a jig to locate my electric outlet boxes in a studframed house. As shown in the drawing, my jig is made out of 1/2-in. plywood. To use it, I place the jig on the floor against the studs, fit a plastic outlet box in the cutout and nail the box to the stud. The jig holds the box, shims it out so that it will be flush with the drywall and sets all of the boxes at exactly the same height. It cuts my rough-in time plenty.
