I don’t know what it is about our toilet seat, but the plastic nuts that hold it in place kept loosening over time. They are hard to reach and clumsy to grip, even with pliers. I solved the problem with a little homemade wrench. As shown in the drawing below, I used a bandsaw to cut notches in the end of a small plastic tube (a spent Magic Marker in this case, but any plastic tube of the correct diameter will do). Now if the nuts loosen, it’s a cinch to tighten them up.
