This cozy little gambrel roofed house nestled in the woods of coastal Maine illustrates the inviting charm of a house at dusk in mid winter. Actually this image was made shortly before dawn, right after a heavy snow. I had scouted the location the previous evening and knew right where I wanted to set up my camera the next morning after the snow stopped. The homeowners were agreeable to an early start and helped by turning the lights on for the shot. Author Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote fondly of her memories as a child growing up in a little house in the big woods. Her book recalls the warmth and shelter provided by the house in the midst of a harsh winter, something that is still important to all of us living in the northern climes!
