From kidney-shaped coffee tables to tulip chairs, iconic styles of the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s are once again in the spotlight. To illuminate the trend better, School House Electric has released a new lighting collection evocative of these decades, inspired by summers spent gazing at the stars.

The Celestial Collection includes three lines: the Luna, the Satellite, and the Orbit. Created by an anonymous German designer for work environments around 1900, the Luna’s moonlike, single-bulb hanging fixture became a popular interior lamp choice in the 1950s. The Satellite design, suggestive of the 1960s and inspired by Sputnik, has defined sockets and separate lightbulbs; it’s available as a single- or multibulb hanging fixture as well as a wall sconce. The Orbit line features spherical globes set in steel rings reminiscent of high-school chemistry class and is available as a chandelier or wall sconce.

The collection includes eight finish options; availability depends on the fixture. Other options include hard-wired compact fluorescents,extended fixture lengths, and UL damp rating for outdoor use. The lamps are all American made. Design, metalwork, and assembly are done in Portland, Ore.; hand-blown and hand-painted shades are crafted in West Virginia; additional parts are made in Los Angeles.
