Historic buildings in every state

Settle down with this Web site and a cup of coffee, and you might never get to the Sunday paper. You’ll be amazed and inspired by the varied selection of old buildings from Anchorage to Tallahassee, including sod houses, Southern mansions, timber-frame churches, covered bridges, and more. Visit http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/habs_haer/.

Cleaner emissions

I went to www.biodiesel.org to find a biodiesel provider for home-heating oil (I found one). The fuel is a blend of 20% biofuel and 80% homeheating oil, but my wife and I feel a lot more than 20% better about burning it in our boiler.

Safer homes

The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (www.flash.org), a.k.a. FLASH, wants to “promote life safety, property protection, and economic well-being by strengthening homes and safeguarding families from natural and manmade disasters.” Sounds reasonable.

Great place to find great buildings

Architecture Online (www.greatbuildings.com) is a place to search for architects, buildings, or places through history. The time line of architects goes from 1400 to 2005. You can also search important buildings by location or by date from 2760 B.C. to 2005.
