Substitute caulk gun

I had my doubts about whether or not this technique was going to work, but after climbing three icy ladders to get to a skylight that needed caulking, I was willing to give it a try. You see, I'd remembered the caulk but left the caulk gun in the truck. And I sure didn't want to hike back down those slippery ladders unless I had to.

So I cut the end of the tube's nozzle, punctured the membrane and put the long handle of my framing hammer into the plunger end of the tube. I placed the hammer head in my armpit, and by simply pulling on the tube, I laid down a very respectable bead of caulk. In fact, I found the control and the accuracy of this method to be nearly the equal of my caulk gun.
