Preparing the Valley of a Roof for Shingling

Proper preparation goes a long way toward preventing leaks

Length: 6:25
Produced By: Gary Junken

There may be several ways to shingle a roof, but when preparing, all the valleys start the same. A most effective material to start with is waterproof shingle underlayment (WSU). These peel-and-stick membranes seal around nails and are easy to work with.

Builder, construction consultant, and contributing editor Mike Guertin demonstrates his method for prepping a valley, solo, on the roof mock-up built to illustrate his article, Four Ways to Shingle a Valley.
