HOUSES 2012: Call-for-entries deadline extended
comments (2) July 18th, 2011 in BlogsWe have changed the call-for-entries deadline from today (July 18) to July 28 because some people have reported technical difficulties when attempting to submit new and remodeled house projects for our HOUSES 2012 issue.
Our sincere apologies to all those who encountered difficulties last week when trying to submit project information. Thanks to your calls and emails, we believe we've resolved the problems with uploading photos, floor plans, and multiple entries, and anticipate that the HOUSES 2012 entry-submission process should now be glitch-free.
To submit a project for next year's HOUSES issue, you will need to login or register, which is quick and free. Your project description and photos will be sent to our online gallery for users to see and discuss. The rest of your submission information will remain confidential until you are contacted by our editorial staff.
If you encounter problems or error messages when attempting to upload your information please check to see that the following information has been entered correctly:
1 - Photo size. Make sure your photos are the proper size. Photos that are too big OR too small will not be able to be uploaded to your post. Photos must be no larger than 4 mb. Pixel height and width must be NO LARGER THAN 1200 by 1200 and NO SMALLER THAN 400 by 400.
2 - Photo file name. File names should not contain any spaces (please use a hyphen or underscore rather than a space) and should not contain any non-alpha or numeric characters (for example $, &, #, %).
3 - Floor plans. At lease one floor plan is required. If you're submitting more than one pdf of your floor plans, you will have to submit them as one zip file. Whether you submit just one floor plan or a zip file of several, when you name the file please make sure there are no spaces in the file name and/or non-alpha or numberic characters.
4 - Required fields. Fields that request a number or date can only be entered as a numeric field. For example, the cost per square foot should be entered as 100, not $100. The number of square feet should be 2000 not 2,000. The year completed should be 2010, not Jan. 2010.
If after correcting any of these errors, you still encounter any problems when submitting your projects, please email your question or submission to fh@taunton.com by Thursday, July 28, 2011, and we will see to it that your difficulties are resolved and your projects included in the HOUSES 2012 entry pool.
Submissions also may be mailed to our office at:

Mailed submissions must be postmarked by July 28, 2011.
Again, our sincere apologies to all those who experienced difficulties with our new call-for-entries process. We appreciate the time you invested in submitting your entries and thank you for your interest in contributing to Fine Homebuilding.
