I get a lot of requests for soundproofing from my clients. Rooms adjacent to Media Rooms or Family Rooms are the most likely rooms to need special attention, but with a bit of extra effort you can really quiet down the noise in any room. In this video I'll show you the steps we took to quiet down the noise in a kids bedroom from the adjacent family room. We're using three products to help us. #1 Special Drywall called Quietrock. This is a special sheetrock that makes a huge difference in noise transmission. #2 Hilti Putty Pads were used on all penetrations through the Quietrock. #3 Acoustical Sealant which is a special type of caulking that remains permanently flexible to reduce noise through penetrations. This video was shot last year and the only thing I'd do differently today is that I would use fiberglass noise batts in the wall instead of the spray foam we used here. I would also consider doing a stagged 2x4 stud approach with 2x6 top & bottom plates for maximum benefit of reduced noise. -Matt Risinger
