The following kitchen was a key part of a whole house renovation that took place during 2012. The existing 1700 sf home is located in the town center of Wellesley Massachusetts. This particular property was recently purchased by a professional single, empty nester mother of 2. The home’s condition was clean throughout and built well but had a cramped floor plan. For such a small house the kitchen was so far removed from the living areas of the house and would make entertaining a challenge. The project goal was to improve the internal circulation of the house, this was achieved by removing a few (bearing) walls and relocating closets and a lav. This lead us to our final design solution which opened up the kitchen to the living room and dining room as well as giving direct access to the rear patio. The client wished for a traditional white kitchen that was funtional and elegant. The kitchen detailing flowed into the other rooms of the house and was the design inspiration for the rest of the renovation. The new plan made the rooms feel more spacious, light and open. Because of the high visibility of the kitchen the design incorporated custom storage solutions and minimized the visual impact of appliances. The finishes and materials were similiar throughout the entire floor.
