The cottages that lay on a tiny spit of sand between Truro and Provincetown Mass. have fascinated me for years. There is a long tradition of making photographs and paintings of these one-room vacation cabins, from Harry Callahan to Joel Meyerowitz. Maybe it is their pure and simple form that resembles a child’s drawing of a house, or the way they sit on a bluff next to the sea. These cottages tap into a collective memory of summers at the beach, and create iconic images for us to carry home.
