House before porch addition

A traditional style porch addition and new bay window transforms the look of this early 20th century city home. Square columns taper in the upper two thirds.

alanjohn alanjohn writes: The deck covering is 5/4 x 3 T&G pine. It is sanded and then primed on all sides with an oil-based stain and the surface is re-stained with a solid colour stain after installation. The deck slopes 3/8" per foot to shed water. This creates a traditional look and if back-primed, installed to shed water and have proper ventilation underneath it will last a long time

garycrawford garycrawford writes: very nicely done!! I'm in the process of renovating a "older" home and want to have a similar covered verandah. What did you use for deck covering. I would like the look of 1 x 3 TG fir but don't tnhink it is practical.
