Concentrating Solar Heating on purpose built shop
comments (1) January 20th, 2009 in Project GalleryThis Project has been 24 years in the making, however only the last 6 years in earnest. As the concentrating solar thermal collector prototypes were tested in quick succession, this project was outgrowing my basement, it needed its own home.
From the ground up, this project has been designed starting with the excavation and custom built cisterns for water storage used as a repository to capture and store heat, hydronically heated floors, the longest wall is windowless and facing south and incorporates an extended overhanging roof desinged to protect the mirrors of the concentrating solar thermal panels, and finally on top using a metal roof to shed snow is where the solar PV panels sit.
Within, the control and guts of the solar thermal and solar PV are installed. Also, there is a small simple machine shop and on the second floor a wood shop.
