NAHB: National Green Building Standard gets ANSI approval
comments (0) February 2nd, 2009 in BlogsOne of the most important and comprehesive green-construction rating systems for residential builders ever proposed, the ICC/NAHB 700, has been approved by the American National Standards Institute, the National Association of Home Builders announced last week.
This is a long-awaited development for everyone in the green homebuilding business and for those advising municipalities that are developing or modifying green building codes. Created by a consensus committee of builders, manufacturers, government experts, the International Code Council, the U.S. Green Building Council, and members of the Green Building Initiative, the ICC/NAHB 700, otherwise known as the National Green Building Standard, is the first green building rating system to be approved by ANSI, making it the benchmark for green homes.
The committee examined the content of the standard for more than a year, held four public hearings, and evaluated more than 2,000 public comments, the NAHB says.
The NAHB Research Center, which administers a national verification and certification program for green homes through the NAHB National Green Building Program, can now offer certification for residential projects to the new standard.
A teleconference call has been scheduled to allow builders and remodelers to discuss the implications of the new standard with some of its developers. The call is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. EST Thursday (February 5); dial 1-800-860-2442 and ask for the National Green Building Standards call.
A replay the teleconference will be accessible beginning 5 p.m. EST February 5 by calling 877-344-7529 and entering 427664 followed by the # sign when prompted for the account number. The replay will be accessible through 5 p.m. EST February 19.
