Basketweave wood floor

This is an entry floor I installed in place of carpet.  The light wood is maple and the dark accent spots are bloodwood, 5"x3/4" prefinished solid material.  I removed the carpet, laid a piece of 30# roofing felt, and then nailed the flooring in place.  The 6x6 ft area took about 22 hours to install.

The maple strips are exactly 4 times the width, and the accent pieces are exactly 5" square.  If all the pieces are cut accurately it goes together easily.  I left the factory tongues in place and used a slot cutting bit in a router to cut grooves in all the other edges, and used slip tongue pieces as needed.  I put a very slight bevel on the square cut edges with a quarter sheet sander and 220 paper, and painted the edges with satin polyurethane.
