Help Build an Article on Remodeling

I’m working on an article about framing interior walls. I plan to make it specific to remodeling, but other than that, I don’t have a particular focus yet. But I need your help.

If you have any advice or tips—even tool and material suggestions—I’d be grateful to hear them. Throw anything my way, from your method for removing drywall (systematic or haphazard) to a specific brand of plastic and masking tape that you use to contain dust.

I also welcome any questions or issues that you’d like to see addressed in the article. They can be general (What’s the best way to build a partition wall in a finished home?) or specific (How do I determine what length screws to use to secure the top plate to the joists above a finished ceiling?).

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Build the walls in place, or on the floor and raise them?

Does the geometry allow raising. If you make the wall exactly the same height as the existing ceiling it won't.

The existing ceiling is made up of I-Joists. What are the rules about attaching a new wall to the Joist. Can you use nails, screws, what size, length? etc;

Lots of problems with the timber frame, but probably would make it's own article. :-)
