Dingy Kitchen Gets Spiced Up
comments (0) April 5th, 2009 in Project GalleryI am a part time remodeler and full time police officer. This was the first project I took on as a semi-professional renovator. This home is a 100 year old house in the downtown- Little Italy neighborhood of Omaha, NE. This kitchen was absolutely gutted. The original plaster was removed along with the original knob and tube wiring. It was replaced with modern drywall and Romex. The cabinets were replaced with cherry finished modern cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Even the old galvanized plumbing was replaced with fresh copper. It was a challenge from the first day due in large part to the house settling over the years. In the end it turned out beautifully and was featured in a local Tour of Historical homes. I hope you guys like what I've done with 100 years of history.

Want to see the winner entries?
Fine Homebuilding editors are a finicky bunch, and opinionated too. So the task of narrowing down the nearly 150 entries from our “Before and After: What’s Old is New Again,” kitchen and bath contest to just five winners wasn’t easy.
After the field was narrowed down to a group of fifteen, the editors convened with coffee and notebooks into a conference room equipped with a projector (for easier viewing). After going back and forth, and sometimes cringing, a few entries kept rising above the others, and viola, we found our winners.
Thanks to all who entered, and congratulations to the winning participants who will be mailed a new, DeWalt 18V 1/2" XRP LiIon Hammerdrill/Drill/Driver kit.
