50 Year Old Kitchen Update
comments (0) April 5th, 2009 in Project GalleryThis is a kitchen remodel we did for a neighbor and it is one of our favorites. The original Kitchen was over 50 years old. The project included relocating the door to the Garage, opening a pass-through to the Dining / Living Room, lowering a closet wall between the Kitchen and Front Entry Hall, and adding 1 x 4 bracing to the bottom of the floor joists to stiffen the floor. Insulation in the walls and a hot water kick space heater solved a problem with a Kitchen that had been cold in the winter. Two large pantry cabinets are located across from the new garage entry door and adjacent to the side by side refrigerator/freezer.

Want to see the winner entries?
Fine Homebuilding editors are a finicky bunch, and opinionated too. So the task of narrowing down the nearly 150 entries from our “Before and After: What’s Old is New Again,” kitchen and bath contest to just five winners wasn’t easy.
After the field was narrowed down to a group of fifteen, the editors convened with coffee and notebooks into a conference room equipped with a projector (for easier viewing). After going back and forth, and sometimes cringing, a few entries kept rising above the others, and viola, we found our winners.
Thanks to all who entered, and congratulations to the winning participants who will be mailed a new, DeWalt 18V 1/2" XRP LiIon Hammerdrill/Drill/Driver kit.
