Weatherproof Deck Rail (and one cute pup)
comments (0) April 20th, 2009 in Blogs, Project GalleryWhile combing the site for inspiring decks and components to share with you for our photo contest, Arthur Chenoweth's article Deck Railings That Stand Up to the Weather caught my eye. Yes, the cute puppy helped. But more to the point, his rails are beefy, shop-built, and downright clever. They include very few fasteners; instead, Chenoweth employs mortise-and-tenon joinery. The rails slide into place over mounting stips on the newel posts, and the spindles are made from electrical conduit.
If a deck you've built features out-of-the-ordinary construction or clever components, do share it with us by posting your photos on our contest page. (And don't worry, if using clever joinery isn't your thing, your photos could help you win one of five Strap Shot nailers from Stanley Bostitch!)
