Upper deck was 23 above grade,
lower was 13
Angled decking for looks and additional stability, picture framed.
Cap rail and handrail posts had  routed profiles and concealed fasteners
Lower deck had TimberTech DrySpace roof above the 8x11 hot tub, which was sitting on 4x12x20 joists, set 12 o.c.

A double-decker high rise project I solo built in '07.  Decking is tight knot cedar, handrails are clear cedar and powder coated steel, had to support a 8x11 hot tub (4x12x20 joists sitting 12" o.c.).  A crane placed the beams and joist bundles, excavator dug the footing holes - everything else was 'built by Mac.'

nichlee nichlee writes: Very nice deck. It looks as though you have sheltered a portion of the lower deck from rain coming through the upper deck. I think I see a drain pipe coming down on the right side. My question is how do you remove debris from between the rain catcher and the deck structure above? I am planning a similar structure and looking for creative ways to deal with water and debris?
