Our house isn't flashy..just a little 2232 sq. ft. house with a full basement, but we did it ourselves.  Took eight years.

That's the fridge hidden in that white cabinet...Fine Homebuilding showed us how to attach the cabinet panel to the fridge door.

I could go on and on...the magazine and forums helped us tremendously.

Yes, we like the stools and the step-up but I thought about it long and hard...it is rather permanent.

Our house evolved into a kind of Pottery Barn Farmhouse...can't say that I was thinking of that from the onset but it just evolved. I think the island arrangement with the 50's stools helps adds a little punch and keeps the design from feeling too traditional.

Also non-traditional...I loathe overhead cabinets so my husband made me very deep drawers for dinnerware and appliances. I love it, and right off the kitchen is a large walk-in pantry...though not as large as I'd like.
