Cedar deck and pergola

I built these not long before I sold the house, so unfortunately I didn't get to enjoy them myself. The deck was my own design, with basic ideas culled from a variety of sources. It was built with "tight knot" cedar. The bench design is the Mendocino Bench, from the California Redwood Association, and it's very comfortable. The planter boxes are lined with pond liner and plastic bins with a drainage pipe to protect the deck from rot. I built the pergola based on the article in issue 178 of Finehomebuilding
