When a set of foam ear plugs fell out of my camera bag this morning I was bored enough to ask myself if they could be put to some other use. They’re dirty, I thought, so I probably should throw them away. But I just began developing an article with Rob Moody on recycle and reuse, so it felt wrong to add these little orange things to the landfill. Then I remembered the foam dart gun my buddy’s 8 year-old son Jacob pegged me with on Saturday. It gave him total glee to pummel poor old defenseless me.

I admitted to myself that on occasion I’m not averse to acting like an 8 year old - especially at the office. So I wondered: how can you put your love for the environment, want for ingenuity and immaturity all to good use at the same time? Before I could complete the question my eyes landed on a 5-ft. long piece of copper pipe. I looked at the earplug, then at the inside diameter of the pipe and I immediately smiled - Jacob will be so proud.
