Fine Homebuilding's "Roof Framing Photo Contest" Official Rules
Show Us Your Hips, Valleys, and Dormers

Framers, this is your chance to show us what you've got and win a brand new Paslode nailer. If you've framed an exceptionally tough roof recently, post your completed project photos and perhaps a few in-progress shots as well. Eyebrows, Dutch roofs, gambrels, whatever it is, we want to see it.

In our latest gallery challenge, we're looking for examples of complexity in roof framing and overall aesthetics of the finished job.

ENTER THE CONTEST

Huck Huck writes: Near as I can tell, its 5 pictures per post, unless you're Charles Miller, he got 10 but isn't saying how, so I'm guessing its Exective Privilege. But you can enter as many 5-picture posts as your little heart desires. Just be sure to get your pictures resized to the correct size and resolution, otherwise they won't take. The site here is kinda finicky.

RDA RDA writes: @Timuhler: Huck's got the right idea, Tim. We're not taking any rights away from you, we just want the right to publish your image if we choose to do so. For example, sometimes FHB publishes a photo from the Project Gallery in the magazine, or we often feature notable images/entries on our home page. . .that sort of thing. You lose nothing by entering, but you could gain a nailer if you win. Good luck!

Huck Huck writes: Tim - I don't see where they're taking ownership of the copyrights from you. Just that you're giving them permission to use those images in their mag, website, a book, advertising, etc.

Come on, post some of those framing pictures of the bigfoot in action, or some of those cool roofs you've done!

Timuhler Timuhler writes: If I enter the contest, does this mean I can no longer use the images I post?

Here is a line from the rules, "All entries become the property of the Sponsor and may be published in any media and in any format at any time they wish in perpetuity."

Or is it specifically the entry as is entered and displayed? I'm not ready to give up my ownership of my pictures.

Any thoughts?

Huck Huck writes: "Send us your gables, your hips,
Your jacks and valleys, straining towards the ridge,
The wretched rafters of your framing follies.
Send these, the shingle-less, unsheathed to me,
I post my jpeg's upon the beaming monitor!"
