New Miter Saw Stand from Makita

On the heels of their new LS1016L sliding compound miter saw, Makita recently introduced a collapsible jobsite miter saw stand, model 195083-4.

The press release for the new stand is light on details, and the page on Makita's website doesn't offer too much information, either. Here's what we know at this point:

It's nice to see fairly large (12") solid-rubber wheels on this stand. Smaller wheels can't span the potholes of a worksite without throwing the whole contraption out of balance, and they put the base of the stand too close to stair treads when moving the saw indoors. Big wheels = happy Tool Hound.

The stand is adjustable to 5 different heights - a feature that I feel is lacking on many setups (Trojan TWC-35, Ridgid AC 9941, or either the Bosch TracRac stand Bosch T4B). I prefer to have my miter saw fairly high, but I know others who feel more comfortable with the saw set lower; it's nice to have options.

The stand has a large platform for mounting your miter saw, and it looks like any saw will work as long as you're willing to bust out your drill and make some new bolt holes. I still prefer a stand that allows the saw to be mounted and removed easily, though. I believe the Dewalt DW723 was one of the first stands to have this feature, and it's since been replicated by Ridgid, Bosch, and on the Ryobi A18MS01, among others. This is a huge feature to me, especially considering that this new Makita stand weighs 90 lbs. without a saw!

At $300, it's in strong competition to be the highest-priced miter saw stand on the market (second only to the Trojan MS-2000, which starts a borderline ridiculous price of $465). I'm not at all saying that this saw stand isn't worth the money; I haven't even seen one in person and had a chance to play with the features--roll it through the mud or up a set of steep stairs, for starters--but to me, this prices says that Makita is confident in their contribution to the miter saw stand category

...but if that's the case, then why was the announcement of the saw stand buried in an email release about their 36v Rotary Hammer, and given such a small space on their website? If the new stand is any where near as nice as their new sliding compound miter saw, then I'm excited to put it through the paces!

flyans writes: I've had this stand for a little over a year now. I bought it incombination with an LS1013 from my local lumber yard. Not sure why Makita kept it so secret, the HD's around here were selling them as well with the LS1013L.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it's pretty darn heavy,loading and unloading it from the back of my truck is definitely a back breaker, but I love the adjustability of the unit, and it has sufficient extension length to support longer stock. I wish the tires were a little more supple, maybe tubeless tires would have been a better choice...
