Mike,
posted: 11:07 am on December 4thThe posts and beams are Doug Fir with some leftover exterior stain (slight gold tint). Lately I've been using OSMO 'One Coat' (German company that specializes in low VOC/natural finishes) with great results. Not sure of the durability yet but it goes on easy and coats really well. Looks great too.

The siding is HardiPanel (4x9 sheets) with metal corners and metal panel dividers (had custom made) screwed on to the 1/2'' CDX sheathing below. Tyvek inbetween. Spent a lot of time pre-drilling the identical screw pattern on all the sheets. A subtle detail but worth it in the end. Dealing with the big panels is kind of beastly-- especially around windows. I had the top of one panel (with a window cutout in the middle) gently lean away from the building while I was screwing the bottom until it folded over enough to break and land on my head. That'll learn you quick.
