Both the roofing industry and the solar industry need to compare notes. Dow just dropped their solar shingle product for lack of sales. Little did they know about the solar industry. First the production cost per watt was way above the average cost of installing a roof and then solar array. Second, the shingles them selves were difficult to work with and often shorted out. This required a very specialized installer/ roofer/ electrian to get it right. Thirdly, they were too fragile. Some would come out of the box defective. Fourthly, no roofing company I am aware of would guarantee the installation water tight. Fifthly, they were just ugly after installation. After installing a few thousand PV panels I can say there are still many solar customer who object to the appearance even after they paid for the PV installation.
I wish Musk luck and hope he finds a PV product that will satisfy all of the above.
They forgot to tape the hip on the front of the garage.
