Re: Are Code-Mandated Air-Sealing Tests a Financial Burden to Builders?

Do not look at this new requirement as a way to make us us all more energy efficient. Those of you who think that the government needs to force us to become energy efficient are those willing to give up our freedom. We are sliding rapidly down the slope and picking up speed every time one of these stupid requirements is foisted upon us. The free market will easily determine how much we pay for energy and we can determine for ourselves how energy efficient to make OUR homes.
They are OUR homes, not the gov'ts homes. Leave us alone.

Pissed Off Constitutionalist - hey-remember that "code"?

Re: One Carpenter's Life as Told by Small Houses and Spaces

Dreamcatcher:

"If the populous refuses to change then gov't will have to step in"?
That doesn't sound like government of the people, by the people and for the people to me.
If you have to begin with the disclaimer "I'm no socialist", I think you are deluding yourself.
reno didn't have to begin "I'm no conservative." We can tell by his comment that he believes in limited gov't. And we can tell by yours that you are indeed a socialist, and that you approve of government force to further Marxist ideals.
You sir, are dangerous.
Rather than force, I believe in freedom.
Live and let live. Were it not for the wealthy people building ridiculously excessive homes in my area, it would be much harder to support my family. It's hard enough as it is. Your way will make it impossible.

Re: Attention Contractors: Your Lead-Paint Certification Deadline is Approaching

Another example of communist totalitarian government intruding into every aspect of our lives.
We are not free, and have not been free for some time.
Those of you who think this is an over-reaction are the sort of people who are welcoming our enslavement with open arms.

Re: Who Do You Blame for Your Energy Lemon?

Fellas,

Calls for government enforcement are a de facto subscription to socialism.

You are in fact saying that the free market is incapable of determining what should be built, and that we need an agent of the government to mandate and enforce an arbitrary ideal.

The free market is wonderful because it will provide what is really wanted with no other pressures.

If the consumer wants an energy efficient house, he will specify that and pay for it.

If he wants a cheap house that maybe isn't as efficient, God bless him. He should be free to do so.

The customer is always right. It's a policy, not a reality.
And it's a good policy.
