Hi Huck - the project died as soon as i finished the construction documents as the owners lost a ton of money in investments. It may come back though in a year or two i have been told.

It is lighthouse inspired as they had some really nice art pieces of light houses as well as a beach theme to the colors and brightness of the existing house.

The site is across the street from Long Island Sound and has forever views from the second floor. The tower element is to bring light into the existing stair. I wanted to bring light into the interior from all angles and times of day so as to keep the entry bright.

the hinge screw holes should NOT be used for a jury-rigged method of painting doors.

that idea will ruin the hinge hole by stretching out the wood.

Furthermore - placing holes in the head, sill or jamb edges of the door is a sure fire way to ruin the door as filling the holes will not work and in the long run create an interior moisture issue that will destroy the door - ESPECIALLY in moist areas like the south.

It is nice to see diversity in types of houses being built. I - as an Architect - would love another chance to be commissioned to design a larger home, as i have in the past, really showcased my talent in a way where budget is not a program requirement. Furthermore i can explore more classical forms of Architecture and bring my experience living and studying Architecture in Italy to the table.

This large project probably kept well over 100 people and even more supporting businesses employed and afloat. This does not even touch upon the fact - brought up in an earlier comment - that the taxes are keeping a lot of FAMILIES employed. Another benefit is that the introduction of the wealthy in any area expands growth for local businesses on a day to day basis.
