Re: Synthetic Decking: Best Buy or Absolute Nightmare?

Precast Concrete Planks -

I am thinking of using precast concrete planks as "deck underpayment. These are hollow and available in 22' length I need. I would lay over a perimeter foundation wall for support. Then we can lay brick, paver stone or whatever on top of the planks. I have poured floating concrete floors and would use that under roof but the precast option seems interesting. I am interested in opinions of others on this. I also am concerned about how the water runoff should be dealt with. On option is to let if run off between the top pavers through the precast planks. Please help if you have experience on this.

Re: TimberSil Decking

I would like to use this wood in South Carolina for a deck. Framing and decking. But am concerned after reading the comments by alldeckedout. I want to paint the deck posts and am not sure is solid 6x6 posts wold be dimensionally stable. Does anyone have experience on laminating the wood to make hollow posts for railing? After sanding does it take primer and paint well?

Re: Manufactured Deck Railings Look Good, But Do They Last?

I have looked at composite decking and railing for our new deck. I would never use. All I have looked at, including TREX, looks terrible after a few years. Even two of our local building centers who sell it don't recommend it.
