My parents bought a house that was built in the 1930's in the mid 60's. We have replaced all of the windows twice with double pane windows due to air leaks and condensation etched glass. We save way more by insulating the walls and roof than in replacing the windows. I believe that if you get a quality restoration it is cheaper and better than buying top of the line windows and way better than just replacing the old sash with new but keeping the old frame.
