Kitchen remodel

Kitchen remodel

This is our kitchen remodel that spanned 6 years.  We started in 2003 on our 1960's ranch style kitchen and had made pretty good progress by 2006.  Then we had a big flood from a burst pipe...

Re: Garage

My Golden Retriever used to do that thing too. What freaked me out was her trip back down the ladder, head first.

Re: Green Building is for Whiners and Hippies

Another whack job speaking about something they have no knowledge of. Seems like the biggest error this country has made in the last century is summed up in the old adage, "Its not what you know its who you know." This is exemplified nowhere better than In the political and media realms. Where else can some small group of individuals orchestrate a coup and lead a nation into a war under false pretenses. Where else can essentially ignorant ranters get airtime on the nations airwaves to spew hyperbole with little factual basis. Answer; only in a country where the notion of networking and connections has superseded the value of true knowledge and understanding.

Re: Man Bulldozes Own Home to Prove a Point

Great, just what this country needs. Another backwoods me first anti-establishment Posse Comitatus idiot not living up to their tax obligations or financial commitments. The guy clearly is smart enough to wrangle with the bank and IRS for the last ten years and then when he can't meet his obligations he cries foul on a contract and throws a temper tantrum?

Re: Wood Sickness

I'm with cmiller on the Fir thing as well as any other Pacific coast oldgrowth, Sitka Spruce, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, Nutmeg. Yew and I get weak kneed around Redwood sinker logs.

Re: Riving knives on the rise

Davis Jarrett, A true riving knife is designed to be unobtrusive and not to be removed. I can't think of any table saw operation that can't be performed with a riving knife attached. Properly designed riving knife mechanisms place the top of the riving knife below the top of the blade and they have their bracket mounted on the saw carriage and are raised and lowered with the blade.

Re: On stimulus handouts and bargain-seeking brides

Hey Kevin,

What"s up? You haven't posted an entry in over a month. As a celebrity don't you know whats expected of you? ;-)

Re: Contest Rules -- Before and After Home Remodels

The suspense is killing me. Have you notified the winners yet?

Re: The character of an old house

Lawrence, we already have a support group, it's called, "Breaktime" and if you ever need to ask a question, voice a gripe or looking for somebody to empathize with or just need to whine its the place to go.
While my house is only 50 years old my family knows all too well about going for months without a kitchen or heat or running water for a few days is like. Perhaps the family should have a support group to turn to.

Re: Why politicize the magazine?

"In my humble opinion, the readers of Fine Homebuilding are the best, most conscientious builders in the world, and for us to debate the placement of a shim but not the global consequences of the very homes we build strikes me now as unconscionable."

You're spot on there. It wasn't Taunton press that politicized Global Climate change. That would be a particular political party (psst, the one that lost the last election) that has tended to lassaiz faire policies that have pretty much crippled this country. If you lose a few readers because they can't seem to draw the connection between how the act of building affects us all (not just the people who inhabit the structures we build) you probably gain just as many back that feel these issues need to be addressed.
