Range Hoods You'll Remember

Sorpresa collection range hoods

  • Manufactured by Broan-NuTone, LLC.
  • 800-558-1711;BestSorpresa.com
  • Cost: from $1500 to $3150
Last year, luxury range-hood manufacturer Best debuted its Sorpresa collection of Italian-inspired hoods (BestSorpresa.com). Named for the Italian word for surprise, the Sorpresa hoods challenged perceptions of what kitchen ventilation could look like. The success of the nine original hoods prompted Best to add four more stylish range hoods this year, with the introduction of the Sorpresa Generation II Collection. Among them are the sleek, ceiling-recessed Cirrus, which allows unobstructed views of the outdoors or other living areas; the sculptural Intrigue (see photo), with its upside-down question-mark shape; and the orb-shaped Sphera, which looks like a hanging light fixture but is actually a recirculation hood intended for small gas, electric, or induction cooktops. The hoods in this collection range in price from $1500 to $3150. To assist homeowners in visualizing how a Sorpresa range hood will look in their kitchen, Best has a visualizer tool on its website.
