Editor's Review: New Framing Nailer Loses Weight, Adds Muscle

review date: July 1, 2004

Max's high-pressure nailers have been available in Japan for 10 years, and they operate from the quietest compressor that I've ever used. In addition, the compressor is lightweight (51.7 lb.), and has two high-pressure (330 psi) ports and two conventional (120 psi) ports for standard pneumatic tools. Don't worry about mixing them up, though; you couldn't if you tried. The high-pressure, twist-lock fittings won't mate to standard fittings. The 2.6-gal., 400-psi tanks have a capacity equal to that of a conventional 8-gal. tank. To prevent the hoses from whipping around when they're disconnected, Max uses three side-entry holes on the male end of the hose fitting (rather than a single hole at the end) to depressurize the hose as it's disconnected.

This compressor is part of the PowerLite system, which includes a framing nailer and a hose, both of which are available separately.
