Editor's Review: Builder's Boom Box

review date: November 1, 2004

The people who designed the Bosch Power Box must have had some fun. This rugged cube of components includes a battery charger that can handle multiple voltages (12, 14.4, 18, and 24), four GFCI-protected receptacles, a CD player, an LCD clock, a 12v DC charger (for cell phones), and an AM/FM radio that can handle 30 presets. With its corner-cushioned aluminum frame and rubber suspension system, the Power Box is built to take plenty of job-site jostling without skipping a beat.

Sizewise, this 14-1/2-in. cube will just pass between 16-in.-o.c. studs, and at 23 lb., the box isn't about to be blown over. The antenna can't be broken off because it's internal. No need to worry about spills, either, because the stereo controls are sealed. And if you find yourself without AC power, the clock and radio operate off a Bosch battery inserted into the charger port in the rear. The Power Box is available without a CD player for $149.
