Editor's Review: Reciprocating-Saw Showdown

review date: October 1, 2005

The combination of a thumbwheel speed selector and a variable-speed trigger gives the operator of this saw excellent blade-speed control. Add to that the "swing" blade action, Hitachi's version of orbital action, and this saw is decent when it comes to fast cutting (although it was about 10 percent slower than other saws with orbital action). Unfortunately, we found the saw bulky and awkward to handle.
