Editor's Review: Your Next Random-Orbit Sander

review date: September 1, 2004

Except for minor differences, this is the same dual-mode sander as the Ridgid R2610. Like its cousin, it has two modes: a 1/8-in. orbit for fine finishing and a 1/4-in. orbit for aggressive but controllable material removal. Changing modes was awkward, however, requiring the user to rotate the pad by hand. The standard paper dust bag was below average, but the accessory cloth bag worked far better. The front handle was instantly removable for getting into restricted areas. This sander produced less than average vibration, but it was a bit heavy for extended vertical use. This is a solid, well-made tool. A single-mode version with a 5-in. pad is available (model SXE 425).
