Edging Stone Wall Capstones

A torch and water add sizzle and pop to this bluestone's edge

Length: 2:45
Produced By: Greg T. Gordon

To create a nice, decorative edge on this bluestone capstone, mason Brendan Mostecki employs a rock-and-thermal approach. The first part, rocking, is done with a 3 lb. hammer and chisel on a bed of sand. Then he uses heat, or thermalling, to cause the biased edges of the bluestone to “pop,” which create an eased edge.
