After trying several unsuccessful methods to stir asphalt driveway and roof coatings, I happened upon a simple solution. I bought an inexpensive chrome towel bar (mine cost 99¢) and used a hacksaw to remove both of its mounting plates, as shown in the drawing. Inserted in my 1/2-in. drill, the rod became a perfect stirring tool for homogenizing even the most stratified asphalt coatings. As a bonus, its chrome coating allows the rod to be easily cleaned and reused.
