The drawing shows a backpack rig I made for carrying asphalt shingles up a ladder. I started with an old aluminum-framed backpack and removed its bag. Then I added a plywood box to cradle the bundles of shingles. Ropes pass through holes drilled in the plywood box, lashing the box to the frame. About three-quarters of the way up the box, I placed a strap to steady the bundles during transport. Using this rig made it almost fun to carry the shingles up to the roof.
