Video Vault: Edging Stone-Wall Capstones
A torch and water add sizzle and pop to this bluestone's edge
To create a decorative edge on this bluestone capstone, mason Brendan Mostecki employs a rock-and-thermal approach. The first part, rocking, is done with a 3-lb. hammer and chisel on a bed of sand. Then he uses heat, called thermalling, to cause the biased edges of the bluestone to “pop,” which creates an eased edge. Learn how to add a thermal edge to your stone-wall cap in this gem from the Fine Homebuilding Video Vault.
