I’ve been using the same bare-bones Makita portable power planer for years now. It’s a no-frills tool, but it gets the job done at a low price (around $100).
Well, nothing like stepping out of an El Camino and into a Mercedes, right? That’s what I was hoping for when I tried out the newest portable power planer from Festool for our latest Tool Hound video review.
While I expect nothing more than pure workhorse from my old Makita planer, any Festool tool has a list of built-in expectations just because of the brand name. I expect it to be engineered to the hilt, be machined like a piece of art, collect dust as if it were designed for the operating room, and yes, empty my wallet faster than the tax man.
But I don’t expect them to cheap out. Did they? Or were the folks at Festool finally worried about sticker shock? Watch the video to find out if the new EHL 65E lived up to my lofty expectations.
