In March, a jury awarded $1.5 million in a case against Ryobi for a benchtop tablesaw injury. Now, 7 months later, Ryobi is back in the news again with a recall report filed on the Consumer Product Safety Commision’s website.
The report indicates a problem with the trigger on Ryobi’s model HP 1802M 18v NiCad drills (see picture), which can reportedly heat up to dangerous temperatures. This recall is targeted at about 455,000 drills sold between January 2001 and July 2003.
Ryobi is asking that any drill meeting this description be returned to them for a replacement. Contact Ryobi Customer Service at (800) 597-9624 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s website at www.ryobitools.com.

R for Ryobi, R for rubbish!
I really like this drill. The speed control is excellent - better than a newer model that my son purchased. It's too bad there's a safety issue. In general, I've had very good luck with Ryobi tools.
