FinishPro 23
The 23SXP shoots pins up to 1-3/8 in. long, and the FinishPro 23LXP shoots pins up to 2 in. long
Not much has happened in the category since I reviewed 23-ga. pin nailers a few years ago (FHB #222). Senco, however, recently released two new nailers: the FinishPro 23SXP, which shoots pins up to 1-3/8 in. long, and the FinishPro 23LXP, which shoots pins up to 2 in. long. These two models will replace the existing FinishPro 10 and FinishPro 11 pin nailers in Senco’s lineup, which have been solid offerings in this category for years.
The update is a welcome one, and I can report that the new tools perform admirably. They sport the full menu of modern features users have come to expect: belt hooks, rear exhausts, swivel fittings, and dry-fire lockouts. They also have a cutaway magazine, which helps them maneuver in tight quarters, and an angled handle, which helps to place the user’s wrist in a more relaxed position. Like the Grex and Cadex pinners they resemble, the Senco nailers still require a hex wrench to clear any nail jams.
Of the two, I found myself reaching for the SXP ($165) over the LXP ($220) because even though I’m as much of a tool junkie as the next guy, I rarely have a reason to shoot pins longer than 1-3/8 in., and the SXP is a more compact model. I did test the LXP, though, by shooting 2-in. pins into hardwood scraps, and I found it to be plenty powerful.
