Each location presents its own challenges and gifts. While I was shooting The Farmhouse- a book for Taunton Press, I was presented with this striking and lovely farmhouse set back in a large field. The author always requested an “establishing shot” to situate the homes. To get this shot with the pristine snow in the foreground, my assistant and I had to hike the long way around the property with the large format camera, 12 foot tripod and ten foot ladder. This was the first shot that I made on that twenty degree morning, and to my delight, it was used as the cover of the book, shown in the second photo. Apparently I am not the only photographer faced with this challenge, check out Susan Teare’s blog post as well!
