I’m seeing a lot of outdoor fireplaces in my work these days, and as fall approaches one can understand their popularity. This particular example was done by architect Scott Simons of Portland, Maine and illustrates the attraction of being outdoors on a cool evening but still remaining comfortable and warm. It’s nice to be able to extend the outdoor time we have, especially in the short summer seasons we have here in New England. I liked this image so much that I used it as the cover for my book entitled “Porch” published by Down East Books in 2013.
