East Meets West on Narragansett Bay
This amazing home blends American Shingle Style architecture and Japanese architectural influences.
Here’s a cool house that blends characteristics of American Shingle Style architecture and Japanese architectural influences. Designed by Bernard Wharton of Shope Reno Wharton Architects, the house sits high on a bluff overlooking Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. Steeply pitched over scale roofs with large overhangs speak of the Japanese influence and provide some protection from the elements on the seaward side. The entrance features massive and beautifully made fir doors, surrounded by multi paned windows which open into a spacious entryway. The shingles were painted black, which helps to visually minimize the house in the surrounding environment.
