5th Wheel Custom Renovation
This 400-sq.-ft., one-bedroom, one-bath retirement home remodel just happens to also be a recreational vehicle.
Dreary interiors, brown on brown, and dim lighting — those were the features of the 2011 5th wheel model that became a vacation home for a retired couple. Sue and George were looking for a way to spend time with family and friends around the country. The size of the recreational vehicle is 400 square feet, with one bedroom and one bathroom. Sue and George wanted the new interior to be bright, simple, and efficient.
Together they did the demolition, rebuild, and design. Sue, a designer (Dreamhouse Enterprises) and George, a project manager, conceived and planned out the cabinetry, kitchen and storage solutions, and countertops. They worked closely with Silver Maple Construction to execute Sue’s storage concepts beautifully.

Three exterior shots and one interior shot? Why do we have to wait for more photos in future Through the Lens posts? Did they not do all the photos in one sitting?
Yeah, I don't see much renovation on the exterior.
How do those pendulum lights handle the travel motion?
Go to their website. Duh! Not what I really wanted to say...
It's a lovely job, but you should inform your readers that the lovely new kitchen is easily 4x heavier than the old. The owners are definitely going to notice that in gas mileage, suspension repairs, road stability and likelihood of accident, especially with so much heavy cabinetry stacked on one side of the trailer like that.
It's tempting to replace all the flimsy RV stuff in your old trailer with residential grade interior stock, but the decision needs to be made with weight in mind. Lots of factors go into a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating and randomly adding enormous additional loads should only be done with great care.
Lovely kitchen, BTW.
Thanks for the feedback and good question! We usually only post one photo of a project and I wanted to spread out a series of posts to show more of the renovation along with info. Two more posts are going up this week!
